How can we preserve traditional food cultures in the modernized world? What are our standards for food production and consumption? How can we reconcile the food gap that divides the world into the over nourished and those suffering from malnutrition?
Join me this summer as I explore Indianapolis’ food events and culture, and connect local happenings to the broader issue of food insecurity domestically and globally.
Why is Central Indiana so connected to eastern Africa? What is root of the relationship? In what ways are the people of Central Indiana and eastern Africa working together to assist those in need in Uganda and Kenya? Is this relationship benefiting those which it aims to help, and can this model of a local-to-local development partnership be replicated in other disadvantaged areas of the world?
Join me this summer as I explore Indianapolis’ humanitarian and social and economic development connection with Kenya and Uganda.
In 1999, Lornah Kiplagat, a four-time world champion runner, founded the High Altitude Training Center in Eldoret, Kenya to help athletes around the world. In July, I, along with three other students and two professors from IUPUI’s department of physical education and tourism management, will travel to the center to help make the center a sports tourism destination.
